Thank you for Helping Stamp Out Hunger

What a beautiful day for a food drive!!  With the support of our faithful letter carriers and the residents of this area nearly 6,000 pounds of non-perishable food was delivered to the NGFCM pantry Saturday, May 14!  Over 2 dozen volunteers, from 3 years old to senior citizen, gave about 150 hours of their time. Girl, woman, boy, man, scout, student, athlete, golfer, runner, lawyer, teacher, writer, photographer, mother, father, blue collar, white collar -- from all walks of life, they worked side by side to help provide for their neighbors in need.  They unloaded postal carriers trucks, transported food from their dock to the pantry, sorted, checked for useable dates, boxed, and carried case after case of food to the pantry shelves or to storage.

The day began at 9:00 when our friendly firefighters set up canopies to provide shade during the day.  Volunteers set up work stations with tables and empty boxes to receive the food.  A plan was devised to sort various vegetables, rice, beans, pasta, baking supplies, sauces & gravies, fruits, breakfast foods, canned meats and miscellaneous goods.  Some lucky family is going to receive marshmallows this week.

Cold drinks and the old faithful Krispy Kreme donuts were set out to nourish the volunteers while we waited for the first carrier to return from her route.  And the rest of the day is history.  It was hot and we worked hard, but there was lots of chatter, and laughter, and a feeling that we were doing something right.  Shortly after 4:00 all food was stored away, supplies and equipment put up, canopies down, nearly all volunteers gone and suddenly the rain came pouring from the sky.  Four of us watched from the doorway and praised God for his grace and glory as he cooled us and reminded us that He provides all we need.

Thank you Northern Greenville County for sharing your blessings so that we can help Stamp Out Hunger in at least our little corner of the world.
