One Shovel at a Time

Sunday, October 30, 2011, ground was broken for the new location of the Ministry.  Nearly 50 faithful volunteers and supporters participated in this joyous occasion.  Jerry Riddle represented Trinity Presbyterian Church by donating a modular building to the Ministry.  Rebecca Greene spoke on behalf of Reedy River Baptist Church offering the site.  Karen Robertson, former Executive Director, reflected on the history of "the pantry" and growth of services since it's inception in 1983.

In keeping with the fact that the Ministry is supported by the community a variety of shovels were used for the ceremony.  We wish to thank Martha's Hardware, Travelers Rest Feed & Seed, Brown's Feed & Seed, Tractor & Supply of Travelers Rest, and Furman University for lending colorful ceremonial shovels.  These kind acts were just a sample of the caring support that makes the work of the Ministry possible.

One shovel used held special meaning as it represented the spirit of the late Jackson Greene, who dreamed of the Ministry becoming a vital part of the missions of Reedy River Baptist Church.  His loving wife, Rebecca, used a shovel that had been handled many times by Jackson.  It was fitting that we include it today in this ground breaking ceremony.

Praise God as He continues to bless and provide so that the Ministry can help families in crisis in northern Greenville County. Watch as we work now to be in our new facility by early spring 2012.
